Preventative medicine has many meanings in today's world. The medical model includes vaccinations, exercise, diet, and regular screenings. However, at Partners in Health & Wellness, we look at total wellness as in a much broader spectrum. Our approach not only includes annual physician visits including blood work and other screening tests, but also acupuncture, nutrition, rehabilitative care, massage therapy, and chiropractic care. Having a chiropractic assessment and manual massage at least once per month helps to prevent pain and injury, as well as relieves stress. High amounts of stress on a regular basis can cause poor digestion, ulcers, poor sleep, increase risk for injury, propagation of poor habits such as excessive drinking, smoking, or eating foods with poor nutritional value. Chiropractic can help reduce joint restrictions, muscle tightness, compensatory movements due to poor posture, and help relieve headaches, neck pain, and burning between the shoulder blades. A regular chiropractic visit can help you keep an eye on your body's well-being and overall musculoskeletal health. Further, like with any treatment plan, a maintenance plan should be customized for you specifically. At Partners in Health & Wellness we understand that there is no one ideal "wellness plan". Like our lifestyles, the wellness plan will take into account your habits, travel patterns, frequency of exercise, and stress levels. Once created, the wellness plan will also need to be reviewed on a regular basis to make sure that is effective for your current lifestyle.
In our office, it is common to hear that massage is a patient's "luxury", especially in today's economy. However, it is important to realize that therapeutic massage has much more value than a luxury massage. Massage therapy is helpful in treatments of chronic problems such as migraine headaches, neck pain, middle back pain, and lower back pain. It is also effective for chronic injuries resulting from car crashes or previous sports collisions. Although massage may not completely stop migraine episodes, they can lessen the effects of the pain, as well as increase rest/sleep cycles as it can relax the muscles contributing to the headache. Deep tissue massage and also help treat chronic stiffness in your neck and shoulders that you have forgotten exists because you have been carrying it around for so long. Regular massage, like regular chiropractic care, is essential for overall good health. By "checking-in" on a regular basis, you can target areas of stress and tension early and help prevent painful episodes from developing.
Craniosacral therapy, also performed by Sallie Gentry, is gaining recognition for headache relief. Treatments for migraine headaches continue to be a major health problem, despite many new pharmacological therapies. Limited clinical experience suggests that craniosacral therapy (CST) may be effective in the treatment of headache, including migraine. The University of North Carolina is currently conducting an efficacy study to measure the effect of Craniosacral therapy on migraine headaches through a randomized clinical trial. With gaining public interest and added research on the horizon, craniosacral therapy is a great adjunct with chiropractic care to provide relief for classical migraine sufferers.
