How It Works

How does it work?

Chiropractic is based on the idea of removing imbalances both structural and postural in an effort to allow our body to heal and rebalance.  For this to happen the network of nerve signals from your brain, down your spinal cord, to the rest of the body must be allowed to flow freely without any interruption (inflammation on the nerve root-as it leaves the spine or the ending nerve).  Chiropractors have the training and experience necessary to safely restore your body's normal function and help reduce irritation to the nerves.  By doing this, it will also help eliminate your body's compensations that will set up harmful posture patterns that are commonly seen.

If you've ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fell down and just bumped into something too hard, it is very possible that you have a spinal dysfunction.  Often times, patients will remark that they notice one shoulder is lower than the other, or their on one side feels tighter or more painful than on the other side.  These are examples of body compensations that patietns suffer with after an injury or an accident.  While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons.  For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively or even just have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying conditions.  It may manifest itself as a tight or painful middle back (area around the lungs) or a stiff and painful neck in the late afternoon, or even possibly regular headaches.

With the proper advice from a chiropractor and changing some harmful habits, many patients have an excellent opportunity to not only reduce symptoms but restore normal health.  Further, they may also create better posture patterns that will allow them to improve their everyday biomechanics and reduce physical strain in their neck and back.  And just like bad habits, if the good habits are reinforced regularly, optimal health can be more attainable than before undergoing care.
