Chiropractic Sports Medicine
Professional sports figures are consistently reaching new heights in their professional careers. With each passing year, new records are shattered and the human body is pushed to its limits. Everyday athletes follow suit by pushing themselves harder, choosing rigorous training patterns, and taking their diets to a new level. Despite the meticulous care and training that athletes take, they experience musculoskeletal injuries from over training, acute sports injury, or improper rest and nutrition. Top performers like Jerry Rice share their experience with chiropractic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CAsGNlQEnI

Many athletes find themselves frustrated with conventional medical treatment which usually calls for medication and removal from activity. Instead of playing the sport the love, frequently they find themselves benched and/or on the sidelines. Athletes who try to push themselves to play through the pain often spend hours after the game in tremendous pain and spasm, as well as resort to taking pain medication. Therefore, a balanced approach to relieving pain while helping an athlete integrate him/herself back into the sport they love is the ultimate goal.
It has been said that chiropractic care most closely relates to the needs of the athlete because special attention is given to the spine, joints, muscles, tendons, and nerves. Chiropractic ensures that all pieces of the musculoskeletal system are working in harmony. By coordinating the moving parts in the proper sequence, athletes will also find themselves suffering for less time and back to the sport they love.
Chiropractors have been selected as attending doctors at the Olympic Games and at national and world championships in track and field, cycling, volleyball, powerlifting, aerobics, and triathlons. They are also part of the medical staff for NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB teams. Many professional athletes will seek regular chiropractic care to help prevent injuries. If you are an athlete or weekend warrior, chiropractic care will help you to reach peak performance. Make an appointment with a chiropractor today.
Sports Medicine in the News
Recently, the British Journal of Sports Medicine published a literature review about whether shoes worn ("prescribed" or fitting) by marathon runners were evidence based. The authors searched the literature for factors that included both professional and non-professional runners who had been prescribed motion control or pronation control studies and their effected outcomes. The BIG SURPRISE: they concluded there was no scientific evidence for the shoe type to distance runners!
